Rock isn’t ‘cool’ – let’s keep it that way, say My Chemical Romance

Rock music has always been associated with a life on the edge, and this is true now more than ever according to American band My Chemical Romance, as reported by Contact Music Online.

‘Rock’s in bad shape,’ said guitarist Ray Toro in an interview with NME magazine. ‘It’s not cool to like rock music these days, and I think that’s really cool. It gives danger back to it.’

He compared the alternative niche occupied by guitar-based rock today to the reputation of hard metal in previous decades.

‘It’s like when you were a metal head and everyone was like, ‘what the f**k are you listening to, that sucks!’ That’s where we are.’

According to the ‘Na Na Na’ singers, rock has regained its ‘dangerous’ outsider status, after recent years seeing Hip Hop and pop increasingly storming the popular charts.

My Chemical Romance are currently touring Europe, and their latest album ‘Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys’ is now available for ‘dangerous outsiders’ to download.
