Irish rock veterans U2 yesterday announced that they will be performing at the iconic Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival this June, reports The Independent online.

The band revealed their news at the Shockwaves NME Awards, delivering their announcement just after the legendary British music event was handed the gong for ‘Best Festival.’

Guitarist The Edge spoke on behalf of the group, saying that they were greatly looking forward to appearing in front of their fans once again.

‘I have to say there is something really special and iconic about that stage,’ he said. ‘So, we’re all looking forward to coming back to pick up where I left off. U2 will be playing June 24. And we’re so excited to get to play in front of the world’s greatest festival audience. We’ll see you there!’

Held in Pilton, England, ‘Glasto’, as it is affectionately known, will this year take place between the 23rd and 28th of June.  Acts on the menu include silver-voiced crooners Coldplay and celebrated diva Beyonce.
